BD Matrigel是从富含胞外基质蛋白的EHS小鼠肿瘤中提取出Basement Membrane Matrix基底膜基质胶，其主要成分有Ⅳ型胶原、层粘连蛋白、硫酸肝素糖蛋白、巢蛋白，还包含生长因子和基质金属蛋白酶等。在室温条件下，BD Matrigel聚合形成具有生物学活性的三维基质，模拟体内细胞基底膜的结构、组成、物理特性和功能，有利于体外细胞的培养和分化，可用于对细胞形态、细胞迁移、细胞侵染、生化功能和基因表达等的研究。

BD Matrigel Basement Membrane Matrix基底膜基质胶形成的三维培养基质，可促进肝细胞、上皮细胞、Sertoli细胞、血管内皮细胞、黑色素瘤细胞、甲状腺细胞及毛囊细胞等的贴壁与分化。同时，Matrigel胶还能影响乳腺上皮细胞的蛋白表达，支持外周神经的新生和牛输卵管上皮细胞的分化。

BD Matrigel Basement Membrane Matrix is effective for the attachment and differentiation of both normal and transformed anchorage dependent epithelioid and other cell types. These include neurons,5,6 Sertoli cells,7 chick lens,8 and vascular endothelial cells,9 and hepatocytes.10 BD Matrigel will influence gene expression in adult rat hepatocytes11 as well as three dimensional culture in mouse12-15 and human16,17 mammary epithelial cells. It will support in vivoperipheral nerve regeneration,18-20 can be used for metabolism and toxicology studies,21,22 and is the basis for several types of tumor cell invasion assays.23,24 BD Matrigel provides the substrate necessary for the study of angiogenesis both in vitro25,26 and in vivo.27-29 BD Matrigel also supports in vivopropagation of human tumors in immunosupressed mice.30-32
