When obtaining a cervical sample, cell volume and sample quality is imperative. Unfortunately, with current practices as much as 20% of samples collected produce false negatives or are returned Quantity Not Sufficient (QNS). The Gynemed Brush is the first cervical sampling tool to eliminate these problems. In fact, during independent testing of more than 15,000 patients, not one sample was returned due to QNS, while overall abnormal detection rates increased by 29%. Especially designed for liquid cytology, the Gynemed Brush is inserted into the cervix in the closed position until the guide ring is in contact with the external os. Because the brush isn’t exposed prior to reaching the transformational zone, the mucus plug is completely bypassed while preventing the squamous and glandular cells from being pushed back into the cervix beyond reach. This gentle insertion is much more comfortable for the patient and reduces the occurrences of capillary hemorrhaging. Once in the cervix, the cover is retracted, the brush is rotated 180º to collect the sample, and then removed. Next, the brush is inserted into the desired prep solution, whether it is Thinprep, Surepath, or PolyCyte, then opened and closed repeatedly to release the sample cells. Finally, a cervical brush that really delivers!
