General Description Proxel® 107 Antimicrobial is a liquid microbiocide for use in controlling the growth of bacteria and algae in industrial applications, and as a preservative to inhibit bacterial spoilage during manufacture, distribution, use and storage of industrial products. Many aqueous dispersions and emulsions can be seriously impaired during storage and use due to the growth of bacteria such as: – Micrococcus flavus – Streptococcus faecalis – Proteus vulgaris – Pseudomonas aeruginosa – Serratia marcescens – Burkholderia cepacia – Pseudomonas florescens – Desulphovibrio vulgaris – Desulphovibrio desulphuricans Proxel® 107 Antimicrobial is an effective preservative against growth of microbial agents in many industrial products and exhibits: – Effective control of a wide range of organisms at economic concentrations – Long-term storage stability. – Ease of use and good compatibility in most aqueous compositions. Typical Properties Properties of Proxel® 107 Antimicrobial Composition A solution of 2-bromo-2nitropropane -1, 3-diol at 20 % in propylene glycol and water Physical Form and Appearance Clear, or practically clear, colorless to pale yellow liquid Specific Gravity (25° C) 1.19 pH < 4.5 Boiling Point 130° F (54° C) Solubility Soluble in water at use concentrations Stability Stable for 2 years when stored in properly sealed containers at ambient temperatures. General Use Directions To control the growth of slime-forming, spoilage, odor-causing and corrosion inducing bacteria and algae in industrial applications, Proxel® 107 Antimicrobial can be dosed directly either by open pouring or by metered pump. Do not apply by open pouring of liquid to cooling water systems; a metering pump system is required for this use and application method. For process application treatments, Proxel® 107 Antimicrobial may be by slug dose initially when the system is noticeably fouled, and reduced to a maintenance dose once microbial control is evident. For some applications, treatment may be by slug dose only or by maintenance dose only. The recommended dosing regimes (slug /maintenance dose) and the dose rates are as indicated in the individual use area instructions. For preservation during manufacture, distribution, storage and use of industrial products, Proxel® 107 Antimicrobial is best added to any liquid phase as late as possible during the manufacturing process. Add after any heating stage, or when the product has cooled to below 40° C. Ensure good mixing and even distribution throughout the product.
