Temperature Control
Temperature can be accurately controlled within a range from 20 to 60℃ (a wider range is available as an option for extremophile micro organisms) by a combination of heating and cooling.
Heating can be obtained either by a hot finger element inside vessels or by a bottom heater, covering the entire vessel base. Cooling is obtained by water circulation into a vessel Jacket, where necessary.
Temperature control parameters can be fine tuned via software.
pH Control
Software controlled peristaltic pumps can perform accurate bi-directional pH control. Pump calibration data are recorded and edited via software. Providing accurate automatic dispensing of solutions.
Antifoam, Harvesting and Feeding
Additional peristaltic pumps can be used for antifoam control,harvesting and feeding, allowing fed batch and continuous processes.
Air or gas lnlet
Air or gas supply to each vessel is controlled by fine controI rotameters. ln systems fitted with four-gas mixing system (Air, O2, CO2 and N2),accurate controI is obtained by a combination of calibrated flow nozzles and software operated valves (on request via mass flow controllers). Different sparkers are available to meet specific requirements.
Agitation
All systems use mechanical agitation. Different impeIIers and propeIIers are available to suit a wide range of applications. The Xplorer and Xpert versions, optimized for cell cultures, use a magnetic coupling to drive rotating shaft minimizing contamination risks. Xpert versions for bacteria use a mechanical coupling with a carefully designed seal to allow high RPM values.
Control System
The control system is based on specifically designed hardware and winBIO software. WinBlO was developed by BioXplore engineers and combines an easy to use graphical interface with powerful tools and functionalities.
Each reactor is displayed in its own window, showing real time process parameters and providing functions for sensor calibration process control, experiment profiling, recipe, data logging and experiment review.
Both control hardware and winBlO core are based on over 500 existing systems, operating a number of different reactors.
Key variables, like temperature, stirrer RPM, pH, and DO are monitored and controlled in real time. DO control can also be cascade controlled with stirrer RPM.
AlI control parameters can be fine tuned via software.
New features can be easily added to include controls for specific needs or analytical process instrumentation.
Reactor/Sterilisation
Vessels are made in 3.3 borosilicate glass with lid shafts and probes in stainless steel. AlI vessel-mounted sensors and probes are steriIisable without a problem. Clamping, seals, electrical and hydraulic connectors are designed to be reliable and easy to use.
The Xplorer is a small scale (~30ml) multi fermentor / bioreactor system, designed to speed up and improve early screening phase in advanced bioprocesses.
The Xplorer can be configured as multiple fermentor (for bacteria and yeast culture) or as multiple bio-reactor (for cells culture) and can be fitted with 4 or 8 stirred glass vessels.
The Xplorer can be fitted with microsampling systems and be easily integrated with analytical instrumentation, such as HPLC, FTIR or mass spectroscopy to collect critical process data.
When configured for cell applications, the Xplorer can also be integrated with a four gas mixing system (Air, O2, CO2 and N2).
The Xplorer can handle batch, fed batch and continuous processes and work as stand-alone system or be controlled by a remote PC, thanks to a powerful dedicated software with an easy- to-use graphical interface.
