Columbus Instruments'' Oxymax Deluxe System is an indirect open circuit calorimeter designed to simultaneously measure metabolic performance of multiple subjects that have differing ventilation needs. The system monitors oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations by volume at the inlet and outlet ports of a chamber/canopy/tent/mask through which a known flow of air is being forcibly ventilated. The difference in gas concentrations along with flow information is employed in the calculations of oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide production, respiratory exchange ratio and heat. All data provided by Oxymax Deluxe is corrected to an STP of 0o and 760 mmHg. The system presents data in normalized forms that are user-defined (mL, mg, etc.).
Oxymax Deluxe can be configured for positive and negative methods of ventilation. This flexibility allows adaptation of the system to virtually any conditions that favor indirect calorimetric measurements. Up to 16 subjects can be monitored with Oxymax Deluxe. Each subject has a dedicated flow adjustment that can be altered during the execution of the experiment. This allows for the simultaneous execution of an experiment that may employ subjects of greatly differing size. Flow monitoring over the range of 100 mL/Min to in excess of 15,000LPM allows Oxymax Deluxe to work with a very wide range of subjects. Oxymax Deluxe systems are employed in applications that range from mice to horses.
Oxymax Deluxe is constructed with stable gas sensors that have been optimized for sensing concentrations near ambient conditions. A typical Oxymax Deluxe measurement is accurately made from readings that differ by as little as 0.1% from inlet to outlet. Oxymax Deluxe employs methods and control systems that assure accurate and repeatable results under changing environmental conditions. The controlling software has been designed to provide ease of use with powerful abilities that enable Oxymax Deluxe to adapt to your specific calorimetric measurement needs. Oxymax Deluxe hardware allows connection to virtually any additional testing equipment (activity meter, food consumption monitors, climate monitoring, etc.) and logs the additional values into the data file.
